Approximately ten month ago we announced that Amazon had jumped into the 3D printing retail space. Back in March, the world’s largest ecommerce marketplace teamed with 3DLT to launch a marketplace filled with items which were all 3D printed. Since then, Amazon has continued to expand their 3D printing presense, teaming with the likes of MakerBot, MixxLabs, Zverse, Joshua Harker and others, to offer their customers the option to customize a variety of items from jewelry to mini bobbleheads.
From what we can tell, the first ten months of Amazon’s 3D printing experiment have been an overall success for the company, as they continue to reach out to additional partners. Their most recent partner is a company calledSandboxr, who has already made a name for themselves within the 3D printing space.
Sandboxr is a online platform which caters mainly to the gaming community, whether it’s video games or board games. They offer a variety of characters from popular games such as Infinity Blade, Enders Game, and others. They also offer several other interesting lineups of characters which are not found in any games at all.
What sets SandBoxr apart from other companies out there, is their ability to allow customers to completely customize the characters, whether it’s their pose, accessories or their colors.
Many of Amazons partners have worked diligently with them to integrate customization options within the Amazon website. For Instance, Mixee Labs’ store on Amazon permits users to completely customize their bobblehead, changing hair color, clothing, and facial features. Since Sandboxr already has many of these options available on their own website, you would have thought that they too would have integrated a customization option into their Amazon storefront. However, this has yet to occur. Perhaps this is an initial test phase for both companies, or perhaps they found it simpler to only offer static 3D printed figurines for now.
Either way, they are offering some pretty interesting and cool products, which they are marketing as ‘collectibles’ on Amazon. In total, there are 25 figurines, all of which come in three different sizes; small, medium and large. They are printed in full color sandstone, and start at just $24.99 a piece, going up from their, dependent on the figurine and the size. All products ship within 6-10 days from your purchase, and the shipping is free. Included are characters from Homie Zombies, the board game Cross Hares, Infinity Blade and Ender’s Game
All the models can be found at the Sandboxr storefront on Amazon. Let us know if you have ordered any of their figurines, and what your thoughts were on their quality. Discuss in the Amazon/Sandboxr forum thread on 3DPB.com
